20 February 2011 - Visit to Old Folks' Home

A group of 23 devotees visited Than Hsiang Wan Ching Yuen in Petaling Jaya.

The devotees spent time with the aged residents of the Home.

To spread the joy, the devotees distributed ang pau and CNY gifts to the residents.

From the Numerical Discourses of the Buddha, An Anthology of Suttas from the Anguttara Nikaya (Translated and edited by Nyanaponika Thera & Bhikkhu Bodhi)

"... Didn't you ever see a woman or a man, aged eighty, ninety or a hundred years, frail, bent like a roof bracket, crooked, leaning on a stick, shakily going along, ailing, youth and vigour gone, with broken teeth, with grey and scanty hair or none, wrinkled, with blotched limbs?"

"Yes, I have seen this."

... "My good man, didn't it ever occur to you, an intelligent and mature person, 'I too am subject to old age and cannot escape it.  Let me know do noble deeds by body, speech and mind'?" ...
