NEW NALANDA DHARMA CENTRE PROGRESS UPDATE (1 - 30 JUNE 2009)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Warmest Greetings!

We gladly share with you the progress of New Nalanda Dharma Centre renovation work for the period from 1st to 30th June 2009.

1st week:
- Major demolition works were carried out on the existing 30 year-old shoplot.
- Remained only basic supporting structure for Civil & Structural (C&S) Engineer’s inspection.
- C&S Engineer discovered that the building did not have a raft foundation, hence inadequate to support higher loadings.

2nd week:
- Reinforcement of the foundation.
- Strengthening of the building structure - beams were removed, repositioned or replaced.
- Removal of roof top to add in an attic floor.

3rd week:
- Constructed formworks for slab (concrete floor) to cover the airwell on 1st floor.
- Completed slab and an additional space of approximately 155 sq ft were created!
- Started plumbing works at ground floor.

4th week:
- Erected most of the basic structure for the Main Shrine Hall, eg ground floor structure wall, main entrance, wall behind the main altar.
- Completed 1st floor wall covering the airwell.
- Constructed formworks for slab to cover the airwell on 2nd floor.

Meanwhile, we do continue with the daily evening chanting at Nalanda to invoke the blessings of the Noble Triple Gem for a smooth and successful project. You are invited to join us at 8pm every night, except for Sunday.

We sincerely thank all of you who have translated your support into actions. Let us together continue to diligently pursue this noble endeavour till its success completion. Anumodana!

Yours in the Dhamma,
The Management Committee
Nalanda Buddhist Society
