Me? A Voluntary Librarian?

What is Pustaka Nalanda?
Pustaka Nalanda is an integral part of Nalanda Buddhist Society in fulfilling its objectives to promote learning, study, practice and understanding of Buddha’s teachings. It provides support for various educational programmes offered by Nalanda Institute and Nalanda Vidyalaya (Dharma School).

Pustaka Nalanda currently has more than two thousand titles comprising Pali Scriptures, reference materials, books, periodicals, magazines and other Buddhist publications in several languages.

Pustaka Nalanda envisions to be a well-equipped, accessible and user-friendly learning resource centre for Buddhist research and studies. With its current expansion plans, we are looking for committed and capable volunteers to support and manage our catalogue of learning materials, as well as to promote and facilitate their use.

What do librarians in Pustaka Nalanda do? They . . .
· Promote and nurture the habit of reading
· Introduce the latest electronic resources to library users
· Build programmes to link the library to community groups
· Acquire new publications to enhance the library collection
Design and provide engaging activities that help people develop their creativity, interests and talents, especially in Buddhist studies, arts and culture.

What does it take to be a Librarian/Assistant Librarian?
With the right attitude and personal drive, anyone can be one!
· Possesses strong commitment to voluntarily serve the Buddhist community
· Has a sincere desire to help people learn
· Keen about making a positive impact on the community
· Acts as a catalyst for innovative teaching and authentic learning
· Possesses creativity, flexibility, good communication and interpersonal skill
Previous experience in a library, learning resource centre or an information service would be an advantage.
